Our Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G video review is out

It’s Samsung’s best take at a foldable phone yet and the Galaxy Z Fold3 is the latest star in our video review series. How’s the build, does the under-display selfie cam feel rushed and is the €1,800/£1,600 asking price justified here?

Design and build are excellent here and this is by far the best feeling foldable we’ve had the chance to use around. The hinge is sturdier than ever and even the troublesome main 7.6-inch display is now 80% more durable according to Samsung. The new 4MP UD selfie cam is certainly noticeable when you look for it but quickly fades away when consuming media. Add in the S Pen support and IPX8 water resistance rating and you’ve got a much more usable device.

The stereo speakers are loud, clear and support Dolby Atmos. One UI 3.1 based on Android 11 brings the usual mix of Samsung features but there are some tweaks to take advantage of the larger display too with up to three-way split apps running next to each other.

Performance from the Snapdragon 888 is quite good though falls a bit short compared to other phones in the graphics and benchmark tests. Then we get to the battery which was a weak point for the Z Flip2 and is also the Achilles’ heel of the Z Fold3 with a modest endurance rating of 75 hours in our proprietary test. The trio of 12MP cameras delivered decent though not spectacular images.
