The Nord 2 5G and OnePlus Buds Pro are becoming available for public testing. Here’s how to apply to be the first to test these devices.
OnePlus has released a program for users to apply to test out the Nord 2 and its new Buds Pro Edition earbuds. While the Nord 2 has technically been announced, there’s some mystery surrounding the Buds Pro, considering this is the first time they have been officially mentioned. It would seem that OnePlus has gone straight from announcement to product testing among individuals.
The Nord 2 is set to launch on July 22, with leaks surfacing and showcasing a sleek-looking new phone. While the phone won’t be available in North America, it will be coming to Europe and India. Based on the leaks, the screen is an AMOLED display with a hole-punch camera cutout. Overall, the device looks like it will be a nice mid-range addition to the Nord line. As far as the OnePlus Buds go, the original model offered up to 30 hours of battery life and featured noise cancellation. Overall, they’re a comparable pair of earbuds for the $79 asking price.
Starting July 9, OnePlus is opening up its latest devices to the public for testing, although it’s unclear whether there is a residence requirement for the testing process. On the OnePlus “Lab” website, there is a countdown for applicants to apply and an overall view of how the selection process will go. Applicants can apply for one or both of these devices, as long as they provide information such as an email, country, and occupation. OnePlus is looking for product testers that can reliably provide feedback on these devices, so applicants will need to provide a recent review of their current smartphone and what they like about it, or a link to a published review. As these fields appear to be required, an application likely won’t be considered if the information is not provided.
Enrolling & What To Expect With OnePlus Phone & Buds
Starting today, applicants can submit their info to OnePlus for a shot at securing a unit. Users will have until July 17 to submit applications, at which point OnePlus will review all of the applications. Three days later on July 20, OnePlus will announce to the community who the winners are. In the FAQ section, OnePlus has specified that only ten devices per “Lab” are available for testing – which likely means ten Nord 2’s and ten OnePlus Buds Pro. The company also specifies that it will require a review about seven days after receiving the device. According to OnePlus, winners will be chosen based on “photography and writing skills.”
As mentioned, the only information on the Nord 2 5G is the location of availability and visual details gleaned from leaks. However, it may be telling that the name of the new OnePlus Buds includes the term “Pro.” Generally, if a pair of earbuds has the word “Pro” in the name, it would be safe to assume the device will include some form of ANC and other premium features. OnePlus may even try to copy a couple of AirPods features, such as motion tracking, since companies are starting to produce their own version of spatial audio. The fact is, there isn’t much information about either of these devices. Fortunately, a few lucky people will be able to voice their opinions after July 20, when OnePlus announces the winners in its community.
