Otto Delaney spent all his time in Sons of Anarchy in jail, and he committed so many crimes that he never had the chance of getting out.
Sons of Anarchy saw many of the title club’s members coming in and out of jail various times, but only one of them was in jail from the beginning of the series and continued being part of the club while in prison: Otto Delaney (Kurt Sutter), and here’s why he was in jail and never got out. Created by Kurt Sutter, Sons of Anarchy took the audience to the fictional town of Charming, California, to meet the title motorcycle club and the many problems they got into, both within the club and with other gangs.
Sons of Anarchy was led by Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam), SAMCRO’s VP at the beginning of the series and the son of John ‘JT’ Teller, one of the club’s founding members. Sons of Anarchy kicks off when Jax finds JT’s manifesto, in which he shared his ideas and views for the club, which were very different from those of the club’s current President (and Jax’s stepfather), Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman). This and other problems send Jax on a journey that makes him question his relationships, family, and role in the club, all while also dealing with many other issues within the club. Due to their lifestyle, many SAMCRO members were imprisoned at some point, and by the time of the events of Sons of Anarchy, only two remained in prison: Lenny Janowitz (Sonny Barger) and Otto Delaney, the latter still an active member of the club even while in prison.

Otto Delaney was a full-patch member of SAMCRO and the husband of Luann (Dendrie Taylor), a former porn star, head of her own porn company (Cara Cara), and close friend of the club, especially Gemma (Katey Sagal). Otto was imprisoned before the events of Sons of Anarchy and never got out as he kept committing crimes in prison that added to his sentence, eventually putting him on death row.
What Happened To Otto In Sons Of Anarchy?
Otto was arrested for second-degree murder and vehicle theft in the mid-1990s and was given a six-year sentence in Stockton State Prison. However, once there, he didn’t stop committing crimes, either personal ones or linked to the club, as he continued to be part of SAMCRO out of loyalty and also to make sure Luann was always safe. Among the crimes Otto committed before the events of Sons of Anarchy are breaking a man’s collarbones and two ribs, stabbing an informant, and trying to broker a deal with GN that went wrong and left him with his left eye slashed. When ATF agent June Stahl (Ally Walker) used Luann to get information out of Otto and take SAMCRO down, he slammed her head against the table to prove he wasn’t a rat, adding more to his already long sentence. In Sons of Anarchy season 2, Otto stabbed a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, and this particular incident was used to get him the death penalty, and he was officially sentenced to death in season 4.

However, that didn’t stop Otto from committing more crimes, such as killing a member of the Russian mafia. After giving away information on SAMCRO after the club failed to protect Luann, Otto learned the truth from Tara and continued to protect the club in any way he could, and his following crime was killing a nurse while declaring “Sons live, Redwood bleeds”. Otto’s final crime was killing Lee Toric, an ex-US Marshal and brother of the nurse he killed, who ordered Otto to be raped daily if he didn’t rat on SAMCRO, and right after killing Toric, Otto was shot to death by prison guards. Sutter’s original plan for Otto was for him to get the gas chamber or lethal injection, but he felt he couldn’t have him commit another crime and not get any punishment, so he had Otto pay for what he did (though maybe not everything he did). Otto’s story in Sons of Anarchy is complicated as he deserved to be in jail for everything he did outside and inside, though most of his actions in prison were to keep Luann safe, but ultimately, that wasn’t enough to save her and himself.
