Exclusive: Halo star Joseph Morgan offers a hopeful update about the Season 3 chances after season 2 earned tremendous critical acclaim.
After the success of Halo season 2, Joseph Morgan (James Ackerson) has high hopes for season 3. Based on the video game franchise, the show follows Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) as he works to protect humanity from the deadly Covenant forces. Season 1 was the subject of sharp criticism, but Halo season 2 recovered by replacing showrunners Kyle Killen and Steven Kane with David Wiener, subsequently resulting in far better reviews from critics and audiences alike.

In honor of the finale, Screen Rant interviewed Morgan about the Halo season 2 ending and the show’s future. While he knows that it received “great” viewership and better reviews, Morgan has not yet had a call about season 3, but feels largely hopeful about the renewal news coming soon. Love And Friendship (2021) – Nollywood Movie
No, look, I know that the show was well received critically, and I know that we’ve had a very passionate and positive response from the fandom, and I know that it got some great numbers in terms of viewing figures, so that’s it. That’s all I know. I’m waiting for the phone to ring, man. I would love to come and do another season, especially because I feel like there was a changing of the guard for season 2 and the new showrunner, David Wiener, brought me on.
He was responsible for me being a part of the show, and he was responsible for changing the vision of the show and the direction of the show. But he also had the cards dealt to him from season 1 of like, “Here’s where you start. You have to play off this.” But now, I feel like, especially with the introduction of the Flood now, season 3 is going to be epic if we get to do that. So yeah, I am very hopeful.
Will Halo Season 3 Be Confirmed?
Halo season 3 has not officially been confirmed, but Morgan is indicating that a renewal is likely to come. With critical acclaim, audience approval, and strong viewership, there is little reason not to approve another season. As Morgan argued, Wiener has been planning ahead and is already planting the seeds of different narratives. Some will likely not reach conclusions for several seasons to come, which is something that would have been apparent when he was hired.
Halo season 2’s ending sets up a new journey for Master Chief with the rise of the Flood, and he has also finally met the Forerunner Monitor, 343 Guilty Spark. Both elements set up the story of the original game, which means that Master Chief can finally explore the main story of the source material. The Spartan-IIIs are another element that is slowly entering the picture, which will leave a new UNSC for Master Chief to navigate. There are numerous directions for season 3 to take.
The coming confrontations would be compelling, but there is no way to know if Paramount+ will actually greenlight another season. The show does have a massive budget, as each episode of season 1 cost $10 million. The strong viewership could promote interest in other Paramount+ products, as well, which could offset production costs. Still, Paramount+ will need to approve Halo season 3, and Joseph Morgan is still waiting for the call.
