TikTok has partnered with several companies for Resumes, a pilot program allowing users to post resumes on the app and send to employers.
TikTok has developed a video category for users to build and share digital resumes through the app. Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of people lost their jobs as businesses tried to cut expenses or shuttered completely. The recruitment program was in beta testing earlier this year as TikTok began to give its young audience a space to seek career opportunities by pushing into a space traditionally held by sites like Indeed and LinkedIn.
TikTok has been rolling out a number of changes and improvements in recent months. For example, in May TikTok began letting users log in to third-party sites with their TikTok account, similar to how many services allow users to link to a Google accounts. Even more recently, TikTok confirmed it is tripling the length of videos on the platform, allowing users to post videos that are up to three minutes in length.
Now, TikTok has announced Resumes. Currently only available in the U.S., users are able to publish a video resume on TikTok. The service believes the new resume field is a perfect fit for the app, since many users post videos about their careers and workplace experience. According to TikTok, the program has partnered with employers like Chipotle, Target, and WWE to help users find entry-level positions while allowing users to “creatively and authentically showcase their skillsets and experiences.” While resumes can be found through #TikTokResumes and the Discover page, users can also submit applications to specific jobs on the TikTok Resumes website.
How To Make A Standout TikTok Resume
Considering the core TikTok experience is video, users have a suite of easy-to-use tools they can take advantage of when creating a resume. However, outside of the video itself, users will want to check over their profile before submitting a resume, so that all public information is something they do not mind a potential employer viewing. Another useful tip is to note the different tones taken by video fields like #careertiktok and #joblife. For example, #Joblife is a comedy field that can help users identify the flavor of comedy that might be suitable for a resume. #Careertiktok is filled with videos offering helpful tips ranging from resume building to interview etiquette.
Also, since TikTok tripled the length of videos, users can build expansive resumes to further highlight their skills and expertise. Of course, as it is TikTok, the best way to build a resume will still be to make sure the video hooks employers quickly and keeps their attention until the video’s closing statements. Like most of TikTok, a video resume will require a lot of effort before the result matches what a user might imagine in their head. Therefore, simply practicing and editing will serve all applicants well. For those in need of additional tips, several tutorial videos can be found on the TikTok Resumes website.
